wHY WE'RE DOING THIS
It all started with a video. Roman Mars' dive into the poor track record of American city flag designers is a must watch. As lifelong vexillologists, it enthralled us; as lifelong New Yorkers, it embarrassed us. It was the inspiration for this movement, and we think it'll compel you to get on board.
Seals were meant for paper, not for flags. With it, the flag is terrible; without it, the flag is boring. It's time to redesign the whole thing. Our city deserves better.

THE SOLUTION
We're compiling a petition to show the mayor and the City Council that New Yorkers care about the flag we fly. A great flag can be a symbol of pride that unites a city and under which it can overcome its greatest challenges and celebrate its greatest achievements.
We're holding an open design contest and will allow New Yorkers to vote on which design they prefer. Submit your design and tell us about its symbolism and meaning.
